Aria, “Murre nicht, lieber Christ,” from Cantata 144, for two alto recorders and keyboard The second number in the cantata, it was originally for alto voice, two violins, two oboes, viola and continuo in e minor, transposed to d in this arrangement. The piece lies too low for oboes, and it has been proposed that recorders, transposed up an octave, could be substituted. However, to avoid high F#'s, we have taken the piece down a major second. Title means, “Don't murmur, dear Christian”.
