Two Mvts. from Cantata 4, choice of two versions

“Christ lag in Todesbanden,” Versus I, and “Es war ein wunderlicher Krieg,” Versus IV. Originally for orchestra, SATB chorus and continuo in e minor, transposed in one version to d for soprano & tenor, and in the other to g for alto & bass. Titles mean, “Christ lay in the bonds of death,” and “It was an odd fight (between Death and Life).”
