“Petit prélude à la journée”, from *Enfantillages pittoresques*
from: E. Satie (1866-1925)
Choice of versions for F or C recorder. From a collection of piano pieces for children called "Enfantillages pittoresques" (“Picturesque Childishness”), written in October of 1913. Transposed up a 4th, and containing every attack from the original. Title means, "Little prelude to the day." According to the great Satie scholar Ornella Volta, “The freshness of these pieces is such that it has been said, ‘this is not music about children, or for children, but indeed child music.’”† In other words, from the perspective of his own carefully preserved youth, Satie writes music in the persona of his own inner child. †From the introduction to the 2005 Eschig edition of *Pièces Enfantines*.
